 Compare and Contrast Paragraph

City Life And Village Life

'Man made the city and Allah made the country' is an old saying. Village life is really different from city life. Firstly, town life is a life of luxury and plenty where village life is simple. Secondly, town life is a busy, competitive, and noisy life. Buses, trucks, cars, and other vehicles always ply on and the industries make a sound. Life in town is complex and difficult. It makes people more or less selfish. People in town are always busy with their own affairs. The town is rather nasty with its dust, filth and bad smell. Vehicles ply constantly in town. Accidents occur there every now and then. Cheats and pick-pockets also abound in town. On the other hand, village life is quiet and peaceful. There is no rush and hurry in the village. Thirdly there are air pollution, water pollution and sound pollution in the city. But the village life is free from all the three kinds of pollution. The air is fresh and clean. Fourthly city life offers greater modern facilities of life. In the city schools, madrasahs and colleges offer a better standard of education. There are Universities and Medical colleges in cities. There are scopes for trade, and commerce in cities. So the standard of living in a city is higher than in a village. City life offers scope for employment in the country there is no scope of employment facilities in the village. So we can say that there are many differences between life and village life.

Online Class And Traditional Class

There are two types of classes - Traditional face-to-face class and Online class. If we compare both, the traditional classes are better than online classes in many ways. First, in the traditional classes, a personal attention can be given to the particular student whereas it is not possible in online classes because learner has to learn by himself/herself. Learning in a class with same age group is fun and interesting thing for the students. It is also helpful in memorizing which is possible only in a traditional class. Whereas there are no such types of interactive groups in online classes. This can lead to monotonousness. In online classes, computer or mobile may affect our eye sight but there is no such harm in traditional classes. In traditional classes, moral values are taught whereas in online classes, the importance is given only to curriculum. In traditional class, every doubt of a child can be cleared whereas it is not possible in online classes. Traditional classes can clear the concept of a student in a manner which he/she understands but for online classes, the content is fixed and cannot be changed according to the learners’ ability. In the context of present day situation,  in the traditional person, to person education system, learners are not assisted with  computers, Internet. The students cannot enjoy the facilities of text, radio, images, animation, streaming video provided by the online equipment.  However, I think that the traditional classes are better than online classes.

Nuclear Family and Extended Family

Family is the most important part of the society. There are mainly two types of families namely nuclear family and extended family. A nuclear family is a small family consisting of husband and wife and their children. On the contrary, an extended family is a big family that consists not only of parents and children but also of grandfather, aunts, etc. Despite the similarities between them, they differ from each other because of social and economic conditions. At present, most people are fond of forming a nuclear family. A nuclear family is supposed to be less troublesome. On the contrary, an extended family is supposed to be noisier. It is thought that more troublesome situations take place in an extended family. Day-to-day living expenses are increasing. So, people do not like to form an extended family. In a nuclear family, children can get good food and education. But the nuclear family may also have some disadvantages. Children in a nuclear family may feel lonely and bored because there are not many members of a nuclear family. On the contrary, children in an extended family do not feel lonely as they always get companions. Thus there are some merits and demerits in both the nuclear family and extended family.

School Life and College Life

There is a great deal of difference between school life and college life. Every person’s educational life starts from his school life. Basically, during this period, a child gets a handle on his educational life which is considered to be the auspicious beginning of his academic career. On the other hand, college life is one of the most important stages of a student’s educational life. During college life a student acquires knowledge on specialized subjects and further advances in career goals. Basically, after the end of school life, our college life begins. In school life we meet new people for the first time which teaches us to make new friends. Here the teachers are very sincere. As a result, they teach the students with love. As school life is not very strict with rules and regulations, we spend this life very happily. As a result, we can never forget school life and childhood memories. On the other hand, as soon as we enter college life, we have to leave our childhood friends. There are various rules and regulations. As a result we study hard hoping for a better future. During the college life a student gets involved in various social activities and voluntary organizations besides the institutional studies which teaches to sacrifice oneself for the welfare of the country. School life and college life is a very important time in everyone’s life. Basically these periods determine the future course of a student’s life.

Technical Education and General Education

Education is the backbone of a nation. Education enlightens a person. In this respect, both types of education play significant roles in the development of a nation. General education usually makes a man highly education. But this type of education often fails to establish a man in his life, because general education does not make a person specialized. As a result, a number of highly education persons remain unemployed and finally, they become the burden of the country. On the other hand, a man who has technical education, can somehow manage a job or may be self-reliant. General education often cannot provide a man with any suitable job. Rather it produces highly education clerks. General education may fulfill the demand of education but it cannot fulfill one’s basic needs. A country, like Bangladesh needs devoted workers which only technical education may provide. Surprisingly, it is seen that one, completing his MBBS course, serves in Administration or Police or in any commercial institution. On the other hand, technical education is job oriented. It ensures getting a job in the respective field, whereas general education increases tension and frustration. Technical education should be compulsory to all. On the contrary general education should be only for the selected persons. Regarding our socio-economic condition, technical education is inevitable.

Cause and Effect Paragraph

 Cause and Effect Paragraph

Global Warming

Global warming is the result of climate change which is caused by the gradual increase in temperature in the world. It has become a current issue and is being discussed worldwide which is creating great havoc for us.There are some reasons for global warming. Firstly, global warming is mainly caused by carbon dioxide around the earth. Most climatologists believe that the greenhouse effect is an important cause of global warming. Secondly, this warming is also caused by deforestation, traffic clogs, jams etc. Thirdly, an increasing number of human settlements and rapid industrialization create global warming seriously. Finally, the use of chlorofluorocarbons in packaging and manufacturing commercial products intensifies global temperatures. However, the main culprits for global warming are carbon dioxide gas produced by the burning of fossil fuels and forests and pollutants such as methane and chlorofluorocarbons. The impact of global warming beggars description. It has become very difficult to endure the excessive amount of heat during the summer season. Floods and droughts have become common affairs throughout the world. The sufferings of the people are over on the increase. It has a great impact on agriculture. The crops are not grown properly. If global warming keeps on increasing, the polar ice will be melted and the sea level will rise. Some coastal areas of the world will go underwater will also affect human health and psychology as well. People are being mentally disturbed by it. Therefore, we should be conscious of the impact of global warming and the concerned people should take the necessary steps to control climate change for a better world and comfortable living for living beings.

Price Hike or Price Spiral

When the prices of the daily necessary commodities go high compared to the normal range, it is called price hike or price spiral. It is the situation of beyond capacity of the people to buy daily essentials. Every day the prices various necessary commodities are increasing. There are many reasons for price hike. Firstly, our population is growing rapidly. But our land is limited. As a result crops are not growing according to our demand. Secondly, sometimes natural disasters like flood and draught are responsible for price hike.  There are also some dishonest businessmen who always try to buy crops in cheap rate at the beginning of the season. After then they create an artificial crisis situation in the market and sell crops at higher price to make illegal profit. Consequently, there occurs price hike. Apart from these market syndicate, hoarding, black market and political unrest are responsible for price spiral. The rising situation of prices in the market affects the general people very seriously. As most people of our country live below the poverty line, they cannot afford to keep pace with the rising condition. So, sufferings of them know no bound. Children also suffer from malnutrition for price for the want of balance diet. It is imperative to control the price hike at any cost. To solve this problem govt. should form a monitoring cell. Some essential commodities should be imported at the time of crisis situation. Govt. should have an arrangement to import essential commodities and should establish public sale points at the crisis situation. Hi-breed crops should be grown in plenty. Money inflation, activities of black market, political turmoil should be derived away. Again, law enforcement agencies should take punitive action against the dishonest businessmen and black marketers.

Deforestation

Deforestation means cutting down large amounts of trees. people are cutting trees to meet their demands. More population requires more arable land, more furniture, more housing. So people are cutting trees randomly, and there are some unscrupulous people who cut trees to make money. Deforestation is harmful to our country and its impact is really bad. Trees are our best friends. It gives us wood, fruits, shelter etc. Trees also give us oxygen without which we cannot survive even for a moment. Trees also absorb carbon-dioxide, which creates the greenhouse effect. Again, trees save us from various natural disasters. Trees prevent soil erosion. It also makes our land fertile. Trees help us in many ways. Again we cut these trees for no reason. Random cutting of trees will one day turn our country into a desert. Because trees bring rain which is essential for our agricultural land. Bangladesh is an agricultural country. Its economy is dependent on agriculture. So, deforestation also affects our economy. Deforestation is also a cause of the greenhouse effect. At least 25% of the total area of a country should be forest. But we have only 17%. Deforestation must be stopped. People should be aware about the importance of trees. The government should come forward in this sector. Media can also help. They can promote programs on the importance of tree plantation. Thus by planting more trees we can stop deforestation.

Food Adulteration

Food adulteration means making food or drink impure by adding or mixing another substance to it.Undoubtedly food adulteration is a heinous crime. In hotels and restaurants stale and rotten foods are mixed with fresh food and served to the customers. They mix harmful chemicals and other preservatives  with food like vegetables  to make it look attractive. Sometimes they mix chemicals with food to keep them fresh for a long time. For example, formalin, a harmful chemical is put on fish to protect them from being rotten.Bakery and confectionary products are also prepared by using toxic substances and thus they get adulterated. Junk food also contains harmful chemicals.Besides, unsafe levels of banned pesticides such as DDT, Aldrin, Chlordane and Heptachlor are used in almost 40%  milk , milk products, fruits and vegetables. In a survey, around 50% vegetables and 35% fruits were found to be contaminated with unsafe level of pesticides. The consequence of such food adulteration is very shocking for the whole nation. People eating adulterated food suffer from fatal diseases like cancer, kidney failure and heart problems. It’s like slow poisoning. Consumption of these adulterated food for a long time may lead to death of huge people. The government should pass Food Safety Act to protect food adulteration. Besides, exemplary punishment should be ensured for the violation of the Food Safety Act.

Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is a serious problem that has become a cause of great concern to the people of the world today. Drug addiction is the addiction of taking drugs. Not only in Bangladesh, the number of drug addicts is increasing in almost all countries of the world. Drugs readily available in our country are – alcohol, ganja, phensidyl, tadi, beer, heroin, phenytoin injection, yaba etc. There are a number of reasons behind drug addiction. These include mistrust, curiosity, social unrest, family strife and turmoil, unemployment, mismatch in expectations and achievements, easy availability of drugs, abundance of black money etc. According to the statistics published in a daily newspaper, about 50 lakh people are addicted to drugs in Bangladesh. But nothing seems to be able to control it. International mafia is using Bangladesh as a corridor for drug trafficking. As a result, with the help of a class of dishonest people in this country, various types of drugs are spreading in all parts of Bangladesh, in villages and towns, in cities and ports. Our youth and youth society are adopting various illegal means to buy drugs. As a result, crimes like hijacking, stealing, robbery, etc and terrorism are increasing everywhere in the country.  In order to protect the youth of our country from the grip of this destructive addiction, conscious people from all levels of society including the government should come forward. All the ways of drug importation and smuggling should be stopped.

Environment Pollution

The environment refers to the air, water and land in which people, animals and plants live. So human beings , animals, plants, air, water and soil are the main elements of the environment . Our environment is being polluted ceaselessly every moment. As with the increase of population the number of mills, factories and vehicles increases, they produce more toxic fumes and more carbon mono-oxide which cause air pollution. Even the ground we walk is polluted by garbage. Water is polluted by industrial waste, poisonous chemicals and other contaminated or harmful substance. Forests and trees are being cut down and thus the ecological balance is being damaged. We have noise from motor vehicles, acropolises, domestic appliance and so on. These cause sound pollution which is not less harmful the an any other sort of pollution. Though we cannot completely get rid of pollution, we can reduce and control it enormously. We have to take necessary effective measures to control it. I think consciousness among the general people about various types of pollution is the first initiative to reduce these pollutions. Planting more trees is a precondition of reducing air pollution and maintaining and developing and effective sewerage system can reduce water pollution to a great extent. Vehicles should be banned at first and sounds from radio, TV etc should be kept in a moderate scale. Above all, we must keep pace with nature and we must make the globe free from pollution.

Climate Change

Climate change means the changes in the regular weather pattern of a particular place or across the world. Climate change and weather pattern are related. Because of climate change, the weather pattern in specific region on earth changes. Climate of the globe is changing because of global warming. Global warming is the rise of temperature of the atmosphere resulted form heat being trapped by environmental pollution. It is caused by the destruction and burning down of tropical rain forests , by traffic that clogs up city streets, by the rapid growth of industry, the use of CFCs in packaging and manufacturing commercial  products the use of detergents and so on. However, the main culprits for global warming are carbon dioxide gas, produced by the burning of fossil fuels and forest, and pollutants such as methane and chlorofluorocarbons. Global warming becomes a constant threat to the living beings. Scientists predict that midway through this century, temperatures may have risen by as much as 40C . This could catastrophically reduce mankind’s ability to grow food, destroy or severely damage wildlife and wilderness, raise sea levels and thereby flood coastal areas and farmland. The alarming news about Bangladesh is that as a result of the rise of the sea level, the lower southern part of the country may one day go under water. So it is necessary to work with world community so that coordinated efforts may be made to prevent climate change and to save the southern part of our country.

Load Shedding

Load shedding refers to the temporary stop of electric supply in some areas if electric demand is greater than supply. There are various causes of load shedding. It occurs due to system loss and unplanned distribution of  electricity.Insufficient production of electricity is also responsible. Besides, illegal connection of electricity causes load shedding. It has become a great curse where people have got used to an electricity oriented life.Fresh food kept in the refrigerator gets rotten due to load shedding. Students cannot study well due to load shedding. If load shedding occurs during examination, students have to suffer a lot. They cannot prepare themselves well for the ensuing examination. The surrounding of a locality becomes ghostly during load  shedding at night. As a result, snatchers become actibe and rob people of their money and other belongings. Due to load shedding big cities, densely populated areas and specially industrial areas suffer most. The production of mills and factories is hindered too for load shedding. The regular supply of industrial production is stopped and they have to face financial loss owing to load shedding. We can produce much more electricity to stop load shedding. Besides, by stopping system loss and unplanned distribution of electricity we may be relieved from load shedding. The government and all concerned must unite their hands to liberate the people from the curse of load shedding as soon as possible.

Gender Discrimination

Gender discrimination means making disparity between man and woman. There are some reasons for which people discriminate between boys and girls. Girls are thought to be weaker and burden, useless and unproductive. It is thought that they can not add income to family. If money is invested for their education, that is supposed to be a wastage. It is also thought that after marriage they will go to in laws’ houses and serve husbands and do domestic chores. But boys are thought to be productive. It is also thought that they can add income to family. The major fields of gender discrimination in our country are food, education, accommodation, cloth and medical treatment. The after-effects of such discrimination are very dreadful and dangerous. They suffer more than their male counterparts from malnutrition and anemia which make them vulnerable to various diseases, resulting in a high mortality rate. They develop a sense of self-effacement, self-denial and inferiority that persists through their life time as an inevitable benchmark of the weaker sex. They do not have any say in decision making in the family. They have to fulfill the demands of their husbands. To remove gender discrimination from our social system, some necessary and effective steps can be taken. Female education should be encouraged. Religious misinterpretation and narrowness of male person should be stopped. Then there will be no discrimination between male and female.

The Dowry System

Dowry system is a heinous malpractice which the people of our country have been nourishing for long years. Dowry is the large amount of money or property that the bride or her family is bound to pay the bridegroom as a condition of the marriage to happen. Poverty is the  main cause of dowry. It is poverty which makes the bridegroom shameless to demand money from the bride’s party at the time of marriage. However, It is not the only reason of dowry system. Because it  is prevalent in solvent families as well. In our socio-economic structure dowry is given  and taken as a penalty to the bride’s family. Moreover the greed of the bridegroom for getting illegal money is the vital cause of dowry. Dowry system gives birth to various problems in the society. It has so many bad effects. The wives are often tortured and beaten to death for not bringing dowry. I think dowry system is very disgraceful for the society  and for the humanity. For elimination dowry system the government should enhance applying the rules strictly. The bride, bridegroom or any other person involved in taking or giving dowry should be punished and boycotted  in the society. Awareness should be risen to protest this malpractice socially. It is a matter of hope that besides the government, many a non government organization is working to get rid of this social curse.

The Bad Effects of Smoking

There is strong medical evidence that smoking is related to more than two dozen diseases. It has negative effects on nearly every organ of the body and reduces overall health. Smoking is responsible for the cause of preventable death and it has also negative health impacts on people of all ages: unborn babies, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. Similarly, it leads people to develop health problems like cancer, organ damage, and heart diseases. These diseases limit a person’s ability to be normally active. The carbon monoxide produced by passive smoking competes with oxygen for required sites on red blood booths. This reduces the blood’s ability to deliver oxygen to the heart and compromises the heart muscle’s ability to use oxygen. People who smoke cigarettes seem to have a higher risk of death from heart disease (and possibly stroke), but their risk isn’t as great as that of cigarette smokers. Studies also show that smokers get more colds, flu, bronchitis, and pneumonia than nonsmokers. And people with certain health conditions become sicker if they smoke; because teens who smoke as a way to manage weight often light up instead of eating, their bodies lack the nutrients they need to grow, develop, and fight off illness properly. Smoking lessens the overall health of smokers. For every premature death caused each year by smoking, there are at least 20 smokers living with a serious smoking-related illness.

Causes of Failure in English and their Remedies

Failure in English language learning in Bangladesh can be attributed to various causes, but there are effective remedies that can help address these issues. One major cause is the lack of a conducive learning environment. Many students do not have access to quality English language resources or qualified teachers, which hampers their progress. To remedy this, it is crucial to improve the availability and quality of English language education. This can be done by training and equipping teachers with effective teaching methodologies, providing adequate learning materials, and creating language learning centers or programs. Another cause of failure is the absence of regular practice and exposure to the English language. Students often do not get enough opportunities to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English outside of the classroom. Remedies for this issue include promoting English language practice through extracurricular activities, language clubs, or conversation groups. A lack of motivation and confidence can also contribute to failure in English language learning. To address this, it is essential to build students' motivation and self-esteem. Teachers can employ interactive and engaging teaching methods, offer praise and encouragement, and create a supportive classroom environment. Furthermore, the absence of authentic English language materials and exposure to native speakers can hinder language learning. Remedies for this issue involve incorporating authentic English materials, such as books, newspapers, videos, or podcasts, into the curriculum. Additionally, organizing cultural exchange programs or inviting native English speakers as guest speakers can provide learners with valuable exposure to real-world English usage and cultural context. By implementing remedies like improving the learning environment, promoting regular practice, fostering motivation and confidence, and providing exposure to authentic language materials, learners in Bangladesh can overcome these challenges and enhance their English language proficiency.

The Padma Bridge

The Padma Multipurpose Bridge is commonly known as the Padma Bridge and it is a two-level road-rail bridge across the Padma River. It connects Louhajang Upazila of Munshiganj and Zazira Upazila of Shariatpur and a small part of Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur, linking the less developed southwest of the country to the northern and eastern regions. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation of the dream bridge on 12th December 2015. The length of this bridge is 6.15 kilometers and the width is 18.18 meters. It is not only the biggest bridge but also the biggest project in the history of Bangladesh. It is the 6th longest multipurpose bridge and the 122nd largest bridge in the world. The bridge provides the people with a four-lane highway facility at the top and a single-track railway at the bottom of the bridge.  The important point is that it is a multipurpose rail-road bridge the existing government has made from the country's own finance. Around 30 thousand crores ($3.6 billion) have been spent on this mega project. China Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited had been tasked with building the bridge. As the Padma is a 'khasrota' river, the bridge's pile had to reach a depth of 120 m (390 ft) which is deeper than any other bridge in the world. Chinese Major Group Engineering Company took about seven years to complete the task. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the bridge on 25th June 2022. Now we can easily reach the tourist spots in the southwestern part of the country namely Sundarbans, Kuakata, and other important destinations such as Faridpur, Gupalganj, Barisal, Patuakhali, Khulna, etc. The bridge will not only ease the communication system of the country but also boost our GDP by around 1.2 percent. With the development of communication systems, millions of people will get access to better medical and educational facilities. Therefore, the emergence of the Padma bridge is a blessing for millions of people.

Tree Plantation

Tree plantation is the process of planting and growing more trees. Trees play a vital role in our lives as they are essential to sustain the existence of human beings on Earth. Life on Earth would be impossible without trees as they provide numerous benefits to the environment and to living beings. One of the most important benefits of trees is that they produce oxygen. Oxygen is essential for the survival of humans and all other living beings. Trees also help to maintain the balance of our environment by absorbing the carbon dioxide that we emit. This helps to prevent air pollution and keeps our environment healthy. Trees also have a significant impact on the soil and water systems. They help to prevent soil erosion and water pollution by retaining water in the soil, which helps in groundwater recharge. Additionally, trees provide shade, which helps to reduce the surface temperature and make the environment more comfortable for living beings. Apart from environmental benefits, trees provide various other benefits to us. They provide us with food, fruits, wood, shade, and flowers. Trees also provide valuable medicines derived from their leaves, bark, and roots. They add beauty to nature and enhance the aesthetic value of our surroundings. Unfortunately, we are cutting down trees at an alarming rate for housing, commercial, and agricultural purposes. To prevent the depletion of trees, we should plant more and more trees. We can organize tree plantation drives and distribute free tree saplings to make people aware of the importance of trees.

The Uses and Abuses of Facebook

Facebook is the most popular and most largely used social net-working service with over a billion active users. Facebook was first founded by Mark Zucker Berg along with his roommates and classmates of Harvard University. Any person over 18 years can become a registered user of Facebook. Facebook expands relation among people around the world. It is a great way to keep in touch with our family members and friends who live far away. With the status updates, photos and profile information , it can keep us up to date on the happenings of all of our near and dear ones. Using facebook one can express his/ her opinions easily. Its merits in the field of friends making, connecting people, chatting, job seeking and business expanding cannot be denied. Another reason is that it helps us to make us public to the people most importantly. But it has some demerits too. Though face book gives entertainment to student-users and helps them know one another, it has now become a curse for the students. Students spend much of their valuable time in Facebook neglecting their studies. In the United States, Facebook has turned into a national obsession encouraging narcissism. Moreover, it is very easy for cyber bullies to thrive. They can harasse and gang up on one person. The demerits of Facebook in derailing teenagers and even the adult cannot also be denied. It is now almost equally used and abused. We should take all possible steps so that this blessing does not turn into a curse.

The Uses and Abuses of Internet

Internet is the latest and most wonderful means of worldwide  communication. It is a new scientific device for quick and speedy news transmission. It is a computer based networking system that has created a great revolution in the world. It is a medium through which we can send news and views in the shortest possible time.We can share our feelings, emotions and attitudes with our near and dear ones of home and abroad through internet in a minute. We can send messages and information to any corner of the globe in the twinkling of an eye. It is the cheapest and fastest means of communication for business and commerce. The information system of the world has  become globilized with the magical touch of internet. Internet has brought new opprtunities for government, education and business. In the developed countries ,teachers send every study material and course to every individual student through internet. If one wants to use internet, one has to learn how to operate it.But it has not widely spread all over Bangladesh and the price of computer is still high. Besides, most of the people of our country do not have the knowledge of internet service. So most of the people of Bangladesh are deprived of the benefit of it. So people should be taught how to operate a computer and how to use internet. Internet service should be introduced everywhere in Bangladesh and brought within the reach of the common people.

The Importance of Learning English

A language which is recognized and used internationally is called an international language. English language is accepted globally as the most influential language. About 300 million people use it as a second language who are not English origin. It is the official or semi official language in more than 60 countries and of many international organizations. In this way English has got the status of an international language connecting people around the world. So learning English is important for development in all spheres of life. The learning of English grammar is also necessary. Because without learning grammar we can’t use a language accurately. English is necessary in trade, commerce and industrial development. English is needed for higher education because all the essential reference books are written in English. Again more than 80% information on computers is in English. The websites on internet are  mostly developed in English. So English has a hold an influence on science and information technology. Employers also seek to appoint those as their workers who can speak and write good English. Having a good command in English can help a man to get a good job and a handsome salary. If we want to keep pace with the rest of world and develop as a nation, we all must learn English well. In our country, the status of English is not very good. Students learn English in schools, colleges and even in universities but they can’t get command over language. It is a good news that the government has given importance on teaching English in schools and colleges. Our English text book helps us to learn English. The book is designed in such a way so that students can learn commutative English properly.

Female Education

Education is the fullest development of body, mind and soul together. Everyone has right to take education. No discrimination should be made between male and female while receiving education. But discrimination is made between male and female in our country while receiving education. So the condition of female education in our country is not satisfactory. The rate of female literacy is about 60%. To be a conscious citizen of the country, to be an active member of the family and society, to be a good mother or wife, and to lead a self-reliant better life ,a woman should be educated properly. There are some barriers on the way of female education. Religious misinterpretation and social strictures discourage, often prevent girls from going to co- education schools. Even in urban schools girls are not allowed by many parents to live in student halls because they fear for their girls’ safety. Early marriage and child birth make women tied to home, with no possibility of going back to school at all.. Any expenditure for sending girls to school is considered wastage by many parents. Many parents believe that their main responsibility in life is to prepare their daughter for marriage and child bearing, not for her own individual life. Illiteracy, superstitious beliefs, narrowness of parents’ mind and mentality are some of the reasons behind these barriers. These barriers or problems can be removed by spreading education widely. Encouraging female education is very important. Because of the fact that women comprise half of our population. If they are not allowed to be involved in workforce, sustainable development will never be obtained. In fact, the importance of female education for our overall development cannot be denied in the true sense of the term.

A book fair is a fair where books are displayed for selling, advertising and for public recognition. Book fair is arranged to inspire viewers, readers and critics to buy and read more books. Nowadays book fairs are becoming more and more popular with the general mass. There are at least two major book fairs held in our country in national level. One is ‘Ekushe Boi Mela’ and the other is ‘Dhaka Boi Mela’. Besides these two book fairs,  there are some other small fairs held in different cities and towns on some special occasions. I visited Ekushe Boi Mela last year. Books of different tastes and different subjects were kept and displayed in a good number of stalls for both sale and exhibition. The stalls of different shapes and forms were beautifully decorated to attract the attention of the book-lovers. It was a very charming and popular place especially for the book lovers like the teachers , the students, the poets even some authors. Besides book stalls, there were some stalls where cassettes of Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, folk song and recitation, posters, view cards, calendars etc were sold in a book fair.  Essentially there were some fast food stalls so that the visitors might have refreshment. Various cultural functions and discussion programmes were held in the book fair. Seminars were also held in the fair where intellectuals tookpart to discuss on different subjects. The fair became crowded in the evening. Different types of cultural programmes were also arranged in the fair. A crowd of people gathered in a book fair. Visiting a book fair is really a nice experience. It increase our knowledge and we also know about the current trend of literature of the country. However book fair plays a vital role in spreading education, knowledge and national heritage, history, culture etc of a country. Hence, it should be made more popular for a better and progressive national life.

There are some remarkable days in our national life. These days come to our life with the message of immense pleasure and traditional festivities. Pahela Baishakh is the first day of Bangla New Year. It is, no doubt, a part and parcel of Bangldeshi culture. It expresses the happy moments of our life. The day is celebrated with traditional festivities throughout the country. Traditionally traders and shop keepers are found to open halkhata. They offer sweets to their customers and clients. Different organizations and institutions chalkout elaborate programmes to celebrate the day. On this day national dailies bring out special supplements. Specially students and teachers of the Institution of Fine Arts (IFA) of Dhaka University bring out a colourful procession carrying festoons, placards, posters, banners and wearing masks from the Institute premises at 9.30 a.m to welcome the Bangla New Year. Bangla Academy, Shilpakala Academy, Jatiya Press Club, Bulbul Lalitkala Academy, Liberation War Museum and Bangladesh National Museum and other cultural organizations also arrange different programmes on the occasion. An  Ieal Student

An ideal student is one who is good both in his studies and manners. He is not necessarily a brilliant student. However, he is very much regular and punctual in his studies. He attends his class regularly and listen to his teacher attentively. He also avoids politics and bad habits. An ideal student must be truthful, honest, and obedient. He should always speak the truth and never tell a lie. He should say his prayers five times a day. He ought  to develop love for his own country. He must be ready to dedicate his life for the welfare of the country. An ideal student participates in co-curricular activities. He also takes part in games and sports. He plays in the playground at the proper time. A sound body develops a sound mind which helps him to prosper in life. He is obedient to his parents and teachers. An ideal student studies with rapt attention. He never shirks his duty. His aim is to be great in life. He always makes proper use of time and never wastes a single moment of time. He abides by the rules of discipline in all aspects of life.  He prepares his life with a noble aim. And he does everything to fulfil his aim.

Satellite TV Channels

Satellite TV channels are those channels that telecast television programmes to the deferent parts of the world via satellite. Satellite telecasting has added new dimensions to television. Nowadays a huge number of satellite channels telecast a wide rang of programmes of varied interest. The programmes of all the channels are not beneficial. Some channels like Discovery, National Geographic, CNN, BBC telecast highly informative programmes and can enrich our mind with sage and sagacity . On the contrary some channels like TV-6, MTV, HBO, AXN, REN-TV cause cultural decay and moral degeneration because they are full of nudism and vulgarism. It has a negative role in our society. Some channels cause cultural assault and moral degradation. Foreign cultures are frequently intruding into our country. Our national culture can be fostered and enriched by avoiding those immoral programmes and showing respect to our own culture and tradition. Our own cultural heritage and elements should be introduced to the new generation. It is true that the programmes of some satellite TV channels are destructive. Those programmes which are harmful should be avoided. That’s to say constructive programmes of the satellite TV channels should be enjoyed. we also have to find out how to derive the best benefit from satellite TV channels keeping its evil up to the minimum limit. Otherwise, moral degradation will take place and social stability will be destroyed.

The Victory Day

The Victory Day is a red letter day in our national life. The 16th December is the victory day in Bangladesh. We achieved our freedom through victory on the 16th December in 1971. Since then we have been living as an independent nation. So, the 16th December is the most significant event for us. We had been under the Pakistani rule from 1947 to 1971. During this period the Pakistani rulers were ruling our country with an iron rod. They were depriving us of our rights. They were looting our money and sending it to West Pakistan. Not only that, the rulers were growing more brutal too. They were torturing those who were raising their voice against their injustice. Even, the once tried to impose Urdu upon us. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was forced not to form a government though his party won absolute majority in the general election. Rather, he was taken the prisoner on the 25th March 1971. During Operation Search Light The Pakistani rulers killed thousands of people. They fired villages after villages. Finding no other way, Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence on the 26th March. Then the Liberation War began. We become independent through a bloody war after nine months. The Victory Day has a great importance in our national life. We have earned name and fame for this day. Now we are the citizens of a free country. We are enjoying equal rights. We do everything freely. We are living in respect. We don’t need to bow down our head before any force. The whole world knows our country now. The day is a great inspiration. It encourages us to go ahead. In conclusion, we can say that the Victory Day is our pride. Thy day has given us a new recognition. The day has given us named and fame. So, we are proud of the day.

International Mother Language Day

The 21st of February is a red-letter day in our national life. On this day in 1952, the brave sons of our motherland laid down their lives to protect the interest of our mother tongue. Since then we have been observing this day as ‘Shaheed Day’. But in 1999, UNESCO declared this day as ‘International Mother Language Day‘. This declaration has turned a national celebration into an international event. With the declaration of the UNESCO, a new dimension has been added to the day. The teaching of the day is that we all should respect the mother languages of others. Our mother language is our unique possession. In the same way, other people’s mother languages are also priceless to them. In a broader sense, the day teaches us to have respect for other people’s rights. On this day the national flag flies at half-mast. Some rituals are performed. Early in the morning the President, Prime Minister, members of Parliament, staffs of diplomatic missions and others arrive at Central Shaheed Minar to place bouquets of flowers. Thus they pay tribute to those who gave their lives for Bangla. Throughout the day people visit the Shaheed Minar to show their respect to the martyrs. Everywhere the elegiac song. “Amar Bhayer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February” is sung. Discussions, meetings, cultural programs, etc. go on for remembering the language matters. The 21st of February has become an inspiration for us on our way of progress and prosperity.

Your College Library

A good college is one which provides an ideal environment for studies. Such an environment is not provided by costly benches and tables. It is provided by dedicated teachers and a good library. I am glad to say that I have been lucky enough to study in such an institution. Our college’s library is made up of three hall-rooms; one of which is a reading-room. The other rooms are made up of books which are neatly arranged on the shelves. A librarian sits at a counter and issues books to us. He is helped by two assistants. They are vigilant so that books are kept in good condition. The college authorities issue library cards to us so that we can borrow books. However, we have to return books within a week. In this way, everyone gets a chance to borrow the books of this choice. During college hours, we may study in the reading room. As silence reigns supreme, we feel like sitting there. Our college library is of great help to our teachers too, because they can consult reference books and thereby present their subjects in a more enlightened way. They may select books from a rich collection of five thousand books. There are old and rare books as well as latest editions. Books are added to this collection every year so that students and teachers may keep pace with the latest theories and thoughts. I think that the college library has provided the students and teachers with an ideal place for widening their knowledge-and although our college doesn’t look special, the library has made it a special place of learning for us.

The Liberation War of Bangladesh

The war of independence is a glorious period in the history of our country. The war was fought against the Pakistan army in 1971. Through this war, Bangladesh emerged as an independent country. It was also a war of supreme sacrifice. About three million people died in this war.  Most of them died in the genocide carried out by the Pakistani army. On March 25, the army launched ‘Operation Search Light’, a massive attack in which there were heavy casualties. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib was arrested and flown to West Pakistan. Before that, he declared the independence of Bangladesh. Most of the Awami League leaders fled and set up a government-in-exile in Calcutta, declaring Bangladesh an independent state. Internal resistance was mobilized by some Bengali units of the regular army. Eventually, on Dec. 3, 1971, the Indian army invaded the territory of its neighbor. The Pakistani army surrendered on December 16.  Thus after long nine months of massacre the war of Liberation came to an end and Bangladesh won freedom. Now 16th December is observed as the Victory Day. Bangabandhu Sheikh Our victory in the war of independence was a hard-earned one. We should not let this great achievement go in vain.

A Winter Morning

A winter morning is both enjoyable and distressful. It is naturally a very cold morning. There is dense fog all around. Sometimes the fog is so dense that the sun rays can't get through it. Nothing can be seen even at a little distance. Dew drops fall at night. When the morning sun peeps they look like glittering gold on grasses and leaves. It is pleasant to the rich but curse to the poor. The poor village people and the slum dwellers in cities suffer greatly for want of warm clothes. Farmers have to go to the fields with their materials. The workers of low classes have to go to their workplace in the morning. In the villages, children and old people gather straw and make fires to warm themselves. The old people bask in the sun or warm themselves beside fireplace. In the village market, some people come out to sell 'date juice'. The scenery of towns is totally different from villages. The people of the town get up from bed a bit late.  They also enjoy the winter morning. Thus a winter morning is not only enjoyable but also distressful to people.

Benefits of Early Rising

The practice of getting up early in the morning is defined as early rising. This habit is incredibly beneficial for people of all ages. The habit of rising early has numerous mental and physical benefits for us. It is necessary for keeping good health. By getting up early, one can have enough time for having a morning walk or some physical exercise, and enjoy the dust-free, oxygen-rich fresh air by the water or in an open ground. They can even have the chance to enjoy the sunrise and soak in the sunshine for a while. Early rising can result in refreshing both the mind and the body. One can also absorb the peaceful and pleasant ambiance of the surroundings, or the chance to experience the beauty of the world, which is full of bright flowers, green fields, and birds chirping. All of these factors contribute to an early riser's overall happiness and health. After that, one can begin their daily task earlier without worrying much about it or any sort of anxiety. Therefore, they can get more time to work, earn more money, and become prosperous. If a person does not get up early, they may encounter numerous challenges throughout the day. Their day may start in a hurry or rush. After working for a few hours, they would easily feel exhausted. Most probably, that would be much faster than the early risers. We all want to avoid these unpleasant situations and maintain our mental and physical wellness. According to an English proverb, "early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise." Thus, rising early is beneficial to one's health, prosperity, and wisdom. Therefore, we should all get up early in the morning.

Dear Sir,

We, the students of your college, beg to state that the students of XII Science group of your college want to go on a study tour at Paharpur, Mahasthangarh and Mainamoti. All these are historical places. Monotonous classes have made our life dull and boring. A study tour can relieve us from this monotony and refresh our mind. We feel that mere reading cannot make our knowledge complete unless we see the things with our own eyes. Study tour is not only interesting but also instructive. It will widen our knowledge and relieve us of the monotony of our life. Two of our professors have already agreed to guide our team. It may kindly be added for your information that the group will consist of 50 members and we want to spend two days at each place. We think we will need Tk. 3000/- each. We like to contribute Tk. 2000/- each and we will need Tk. 50,000/- in addition to our purpose.

We, therefore, pray and hope that you would be kind enough to permit us to go on the tour and sanction Tk. 50,000/- for the purpose so that we can make the tour successful.

Sir,

We, the students of your college, would like to draw your kind attention to the fact that flood has caused a tremendous damage this year all around the locality. The flood has left a trail of death and devastation all around. Thousands of people have become homeless. They have taken shelter in the nearby highways. They are passing their days without food, clothes, and water. They are living under the open sky. The sufferings of the people beggar description. They are now suffering seriously from want of shelter, food and medicine. So, we can arrange at least a shelter for them in our school premises so that we can send relief goods to the flood-affected people of the locality.

Subject: Application for taking necessary steps against anti-social activities.

Dear Sir,

With due respect and humble submission, we beg to state that we are the inhabitants of Kataltoli under Rangamati Sadar upazila. We are suffering from a serious anti-social activity problem in our village. Some young boys of our locality have made our life miserable.  Especially they tease school and college going girls every day.  Because of their fear, the guardians are not able to send their daughters to schools and colleges.  No woman can also go out for them. Though people forbid them, they don't pay heed to them. They misbehave with shopkeepers and passersby. They don't pay money by taking goods from shopkeepers.  They become more violent at night than during the day. During this time they gather at the turning points of the roads and take alcohol, gaja, fencidil, soporific drugs and heroin. In a word, our lives have become miserable due to their oppression. So, we draw your kind attention to take strict action against their anti-social activities.

We, therefore, pray and hope that you would be kind enough to take strong steps against anti social activities in our locality and oblige thereby.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Sir,

We all know the importance of a mobile phone in the realm of education. However, a mobile phone can be disturbing too if we cannot use it wisely. Therefore, I would like to draw your kind attention that some of our teachers are using mobile phones during class time.  Moreover, some of the students also talk over their mobile phones. As a result, their talking not only kills our valuable time but also diverts the concentration of the attentive students. They feel disturbed and disappointed. Furthermore, the class is seriously disturbed and jumbled by the ringing of this wonderful device now and then. Therefore, these unwise ways of using mobile phones are seriously disturbing our academic activities. Now it is high time the authority took necessary steps on the use of a cell phone by a teacher or student, be it in the classroom or in the exam hall.

I, therefore, hope that you would be sincere enough to take necessary steps to ban the use of the mobile phone during examination and class time.

Subject: Application for taking necessary steps to clean the college campus.

Sir,

We, the students of your renowned college, would like to state that ours is a big educational institution where more than two thousand students come to attend classes from many parts of the city. However, it is a matter of sorrow that it has been more than a month since the sweeper who used to clean our campus left the job. As a result, our beloved learning place has turned into an uncomfortable and unhealthy one. The whole campus is full of garbage. Not only the bad smell is spreading from there, but various diseases are also being born. The campus has been a mosquito breeding place. Some of our students have already been diagnosed with dengue fever. We all have become very afraid of such a dirty environment.  Moreover, due to the bad smell, we feel very uncomfortable and cannot pay attention to the valuable classes. Therefore, we all are desperately looking forward to getting rid of such an unhygienic environment that is not only spreading diseases but also interrupting our academic journey.

We are, therefore, seeking your kind consideration in taking prompt steps to appoint one or two sweepers who can regularly clean the campus and restore the healthy environment we need for our uninterrupted academic journey.

Sincerely Yours,
